All Washed Up

Unique pieces of art and furniture made from pure driftwood or re-cycled rustic timber, collected from Wairarapa beaches and rivers in the southern part of the North Island, New Zealand or sourced from local farmland in the form of genuine native timber fence posts and re-cycled timber.

My name is Tim and my interest in driftwood started whilst walking my dog "Flippen" along the beaches of the coastline in Skåne, Sweden. Flippen, being a Border Collie needs a lot of exercise and started by finding sticks for me to throw for him. I slowly realised that many of them had fascinating shapes and started to take them home with me. Before long I had started creating different objects to decorate my Hotel, Restaurant & Bar to create a local themed atmosphere. This proved to be very popular with my guests who wondered if it was possible to purchase certain items which I obviously agreed too, so started our hunt for bigger and better pieces, washed up by the frequent winter storms, which I could then utilise in making my own designs.

In November 2014 I moved back to New Zealand to run a brewery restaurant in the beautiful Coromandel but due to a crazy workload I couldn't follow my dream of strolling the shorelines with Flippen, finding unique pieces of natural driftwood. (In Sweden most driftwood was man made compared to NZ which is 99% pure) In March, I got the break and chance to take the jump into the artists world and so picked up my belongings again and moved to "Pinot Noir" land, wine region Martinborough. This may sound strange being an inland town but actually here I am not far from both coasts with multiple choices of fantastic driftwood strewn beaches and coves. I also have the added bonus of being on the shores of the Ruamahanga river which produces some amazing pieces as well as helping create the world famous Pinot Noir which happens to be totally inspirational !!!

These designs are now available to you by private appointment.
I hope that you enjoy what you see as much as I had making these pieces.
