The Olivo Story
Olivo is the oldest commercial olive grove in the Wairarapa. Planted by Robin and Ian Lockie in 1991 and reluctantly sold by them in 1998 to Tim Day and Rose Percival. The Lockies were pioneers of the olive industry in the Wairarapa and New Zealand. Olivo first started producing awarding winning extra virgin olive oil in 2001.
On the birth of their daughter, Tim and Rose sold the grove to us - Helen and John Meehan – in May 2003. We are ably supported by our son, Nicholas when he is in New Zealand. Nicholas carries out the best grove tour. Sophie the Beagle tags along and sees her primary role as keeping the rabbits at bay in the grove. Helen worked in the information/IT industry for 20 years and wanted a complete career change while John provides financial and business acumen to Olivo Ltd with his PricewaterhouseCoopers background.
Grove management is maintained to a high standard and here we are well supported by Mattie whose mowing, helpfulness and handyman skills are second to none. David Barrett prunes our olives trees skillfully and both Mattie and David are a regular part of our picking team of 5.
We are very excited to carry on the leadership that the Lockies and Tim and Rose brought to the olive industry in the Wairarapa.
