Wine Wars event at Peppers Parehua

Wine Wars with Dry River & Wirra Wirra Wines

What do you get when you put Kiwi & Aussie fine wines teamed with exquisite cuisine in a room with wine lovers from all around the world? Wine Wars!

Sunday 26th April we were lucky enough to experience the annual Peppers Parehua wine wars event at the incredible Pavilion Restaurant in Martinborough.

Facilitated by award winning Australian wine critic Nick Stock, this was an enlightening experience!
Last year Australian winery Wirra Wirra took The title "over the ditch", so came back again to defend against local Martinborough winery Dry River vineyard!

A degustation dinner of 5 courses included a wine match carefully selected from each vineyard. Nothing like a bit of light hearted Trans-Tasman rivalry to invigorate the senses as the dinner guests chose their favourite wine in this spectacular 5 course tasting event!

As each course arrived, along came two wines to match & we chose our favourite....A or B?

Wine Master & Super Taster!

Each table of 6 guests selected a Wine Master & a Super Taster. The Wine Master ensured the judging on each table was completed according to the rules.

The Super Taster's role was to blind test a selected fine wine, then compete against each team for a wine prize!

Our Super Taster Leo, pictured below did an amazing job.

The Wine Makers & The Commentator

Each wine maker gave a brief history of their respective wineries & Nick Stock gave his impressions & commentary on each wine variety. This was entertaining as well as informative & increased our knowledge of the wines sampled on the evening.

The 2015 Peppers Parehua Wine Wars Title Goes to............

After much wine tasting, drum rolling, discussion & anticipation, Nick Stock tallied up the votes & announced the winner of Peppers Parehua Wine Wars 2015!

By the closest of margins, 61-59 the winner is......

Dry River Vineyard from Dry River Road Martinborough!

What an incredible evening, finished off with even more fine wine & a chat with the wine makers in Peppers private bar... a fabulous event for Martinborough, we highly recommend you attend next year!

Meantime continue to sample the beautiful wines in our region... and yes the Aussie wines as well!
